frequently asked questions

How do I order a cake?

You can give us a call at 973-823-8432 or reach us through our contact form. E-mail is the best way to communicate as we are in and out of the bakery quite often or meeting with clients. If you do not need a custom cake, just go to our shop to place an online order for one of our signature cakes.

When do I order a cake?

With wedding and custom cakes, within 3 months or your date. We generally ask for at least one-month notice depending on the season, but we can always see what we can do to fit in your order.

Do you deliver?

Yes! We will deliver orders over $300 in the tri-state area. Delivery fee is based on distance from our shop.

Do you do tastings?

Yes. We do tastings for all wedding cakes and for custom cakes serving more than 75 people. We’ll put together a tasting box that can be picked up at our shop. Tasting boxes are $45 and and can be ordered on our online shop.

Can I stop in to pick up a cake?

Unfortunately, no. All our cakes need to be ordered in advance.

What are your hours?

We are not open to the public on a walk-in basis, so our hours are based on the work we have for cakes. We ask that you schedule a time for your pickup so we can coordinate all of them for that day. If you would like to talk about a cake it is best to contact us to make an appointment.

Do you make sheet cakes?

No. We focus on tiered or sculpted cakes.

Do you make gluten-free, nut-free or vegan cakes?

We strive to meet the needs of many dietary restrictions. We can when possible make a gluten-free, nut-free or vegan cake, however, all our cakes are baked in ovens that also bake nuts and wheat-based products. We ask our clients to consider this when placing an order for someone with a severe allergy.

What are your cakes like?

Our cakes are made with (lots) of butter, buttermilk and King Arthur flours, so we think our cakes are more like rich pound cake rather than light and airy. Our buttercream is an Italian meringue style, so it’s not overly sweet and has a very buttery mouthfeel. Because of this, it’s best to serve our cakes at room temperature. If fondant is used, we always apply a thin layer of either white or dark chocolate ganache before wrapping in fondant.

Custom cake work, like any custom and specialty profession, takes time and years of experience. Our prices aren't just about the quality of the ingredients to make the cake, but the hours that go into creating it. Depending on the designs, some cakes can take up to 8-12 hours to create, not including mixing and baking times. Our goal is to always provide our clients with a great product and service and we’re confident that you will taste and see the time and care we put into each cake.

why are custom cakes more than $150?

What should I know about picking up and transporting my cake?

Here are some great tips on traveling with your cake:

  • Carry the cake box securely, holding it from the bottom, not the sides. Avoid tilting or jostling the box.

  • Make sure to place the cake box in a completely flat area in your car. In most cars, the flattest spot is the floor on the passenger’s side. Do not place the cake on a seat, as they are never completely flat.

  • Avoid placing your cake in direct sunlight.

  • Our cakes travel well when they are cold. When you pick up your cake, it will be chilled, and your car should be also. During the summer, we recommend using the AC on your way over to our shop to cool down your car, and then leaving AC on while transporting the cake.

  • If you’re traveling with a cake during the winter, make sure it is not placed near an air vent with hot air shooting out. Keep the car as cold as possible.

  • Signature one-tier cakes will be packaged in cardboard boxes with window lids. Due to their height, tall one-tier cakes and all two-tier cakes will be packaged in cardboard boxes without lids. This makes for easier and more confident transportation, and is fine to be stored in the fridge this way.

  • If you are picking up a two-tier cake, you may want to bring a friend for assistance. Two-tier cakes are surprisingly heavy, and can be awkward to carry and place in a car by yourself.

  • Please drive carefully!

How do I serve my cake?

It’s best to allow 1-3 hours (depending on the size) for your cake to come to room temperature before enjoying. Our cakes are baked with fresh ingredients and no preservatives. To enjoy at peak freshness, we recommend eating your cake as soon as possible. If you have leftovers, try to keep the cake as intact as possible and press waxed paper or plastic wrap against the cut side to keep fresh.
